This publication is one of the catalogues accompanying Sharjah Biennial 16: to carry (6 February–15 June 2026), each dedicated to the Biennial's curatorial propositions. Edited by Megan Tamati-Quennell, Ihi expands on her curatorial framework, exploring Indigenous knowledge systems, ancestral relationships, and the ways in which contemporary artistic practices carry memory, identity and cultural continuity across time and place.

Alongside documentation of the artworks and exhibitions, the catalogue brings together newly commissioned essays, artist works, interviews, and reflections that reflect the Biennial's wider ecosystem of research and collaboration.

The catalogue includes a foreword by Hoor Al Qasimi; a curatorial essay by Megan Tamati-Quennell; essays by Allison Glenn, Hanahiva Rose, Reem Sawan and Stephen Gilchrist; an artist page work by Ana Iti, and excerpts from interviews–first published by Contemporary HUM–conducted by Pauline Autet with Albert L Refiti, Ana Iti, Fiona Pardington, Kate Newby, Luke Willis Thompson and Te Matahiapo Collective, offering insight into the conceptual and cultural frameworks that shaped their contributions to Sharjah Biennial 16. In addition, a conversation between Tamati-Quenell and Jiwon Lee reflecting on the Biennial concludes the catalogue alongside a specially-commissioned Karakia from Ngataiharuru Taepa and Kura Puke.
